WSOP 2007 Main Event Champion Jerry Yang’s recent dissing of WSOP 2009 Main Event Champ Joe Cada suggests that perhaps they should meet in a Heads-Up Poker Challange. Who’s the true champion anyway? In my opinion, both are champions in their own right, but the recent insult to Joe Cada by Jerry Yang hurts them both.

Below is Brian Cherry’s (www.launchpoker.com) take on the situtation.

“By all accounts 2007 World Series of Poker Main Event Champ and Poker Pro, Jerry Yang, is a very nice fellow. I am guessing if your choices were to sit down for a few hands of Texas Hold’em with either Jerry Yang, Hitler, Bernie Maddoff, Barack Obama, a group of Amway recruiters, or Phil Hellmuth, most people would probably lean towards playing with Jerry. Masochists would perhaps take Phil and those in the “Jamestown Kool-Aid” demographic would most likely lean towards the rest of the field. While it is true that Jerry has a good reputation as a person, and a wonderful personal story, maybe he should avoid commenting on other poker players who have won the WSOP Main Event.

Jerry Yang recently made some comments about the new 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event Champion, Joe Cada, and about how lucky he got in his quest for the WSOP’s top prize. His exact comments were “Joe Cada is a good player, but he got incredibly lucky. Especially with the pocket threes (all in pre-flop against Jeff Shulman’s pocket jacks) and the pocket deuces (all in pre-flop against Antoine Saout’s pocket queens). I’m happy it worked out for him.” This compliment is like delivering a love note by tying it around a brick and chucking it at your beloved face. By saying this, Jerry is not only diminishing the effort that Cada put forth, but lowering the game of Texas Hold’em to the status of bingo when it comes to skill. As a poker pro, and veteran of hundreds of thousands of poker hands, he should know better.

Joe had plenty of luck during the Main Event, but any experienced poker player knows just how good somebody has to be in order to put themselves in position to be lucky at that level. Let’s face it, luck is as much factor in every major sport as human error. While a few poker hands obviously involved luck, there was plenty of skill on display as well. This comment probably had very little to do with “sour grapes”. Jerry was probably just having an “off the teleprompter” moment. I am not sure he meant anything disrespectful by it, but he should think twice before saying such things in the future.”

At least Ivey hasn’t faced the scandal Woods has. Perhaps the reason for the Divorce has something to do with the following Video.

20-year old Viktor Blom is Isildur1- the online poker protegy currently causing havoc with Phil Ivey, Patrik Antonius, & Tom Dwan at the Full Tilt Poker Tables (and we thought Tom Dwan and Joe Cada were youngsters).

Viktor Blom- Isildur1 is challanging the Full Tilt Poker ProsViktor Blom is a 20 year old poker pro from Rånäs, Stockholms län, Sweden. He started playing poker under the screen name of blom90 on the Ipoker network and Party Poker. Viktor is alleged to have deposited $2000.00 on Ipoker and ran it up to $1.5 million in 2 weeks with his hyper aggressive style. He was 18 at the time.

Viktor started his run on the Ipoker network and has since migrated to Full Tilt Poker to take on the best in the world. Viktor not only played with the pros, but started an epic poker match in an attempt to reign supreme over the Full Tilt team members who play the highest stakes. He signed up under the name of Isildur1.

Viktor started by taking about $3 million off of Tom Dwan aka Durrrr. After that, Patrik Antonius took on isildur1 and won the largest pot in online history off of him and about 2.5 million. Viktor wasn’t discouraged at all, the next evening he not only played Tom Dwan and Patrik Antonus, but added Phil Ivey to the mix, playing all of them on a total of 8 screens at once! Phil Ivey took over a million off of isildur1 in a couple of hours. Patrik and Durrrr both lost money off of him but were gaining ground.

Viktor is relentless, hyper aggressive, and capable of making 15k calls with K high on scary boards. His favorite move is to Overbet–His second favorite move is to bluff reraise all in on the river, strong or air. Viktor is playing millions of hands, and is sure to become a dominating force in the poker world. Blom is currently nominated for Rookie of the Year at the Scandinavian Awards for Swedish players. If his domination of the online pros continues, he’s is sure to get signed by a major poker room over the next few months.

Biggest Hand in Online Poker History: Patrik Antonius beats Isildur1 out of an $879k Pot!
Thanks to PokerPlayer.com for this great news-breaking article (author: R. Jarvis)

PATRIK ANTONIUS Beats ISILDUR1 in Biggest Online Pot Ever!

In the early hours of the morning online cash titans Patrik Antonius and Isildur1 got involved in the biggest pot in online poker history, worth $879,000. The two were on a $500/$1000 PLO table and sitting over 400BBs deep each.

The action started very tamely, with a raise by Isildur1 and a flat-call by Antonius holding 6h-Ah-Qc-9s. The flop was 5h-7h-Qs. Isildur1 bet out $5k with a check-raise by Antonius making it $21,000, which was called. The Ad came on the turn and this is where the insanity began. Patrik bet out $48k, Isildur1 raised to $192,000 and there was an all-in from the Team Full Tilt pro for $439,480 total. After committing so much to the pot it was a must-call for the unknown Swedish phenom Isildur1 who was holding Qd-Th-Ks-As.

Both held top two pair but Antonius had the slight edge equity-wise with his nut flush draw and gutshot straight draw. Isildur1 had outs to win also however, with a higher gutshot straight draw and any non-heart king giving him a higher two-pair. The river was a brutal 8d though, completing Antonius’ gutshot and shipping him the pot and a place in the record books.

Despite this huge hand Isildur1 is still one of the biggest online winners this year, up approximately $4.5m in the short space of time he has been involved in the nosebleed games. Much of that profit of course has come at the hands of online posterboy Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan in an epic series of heads-up contests that were well reported on this site last week. When his identity is finally revealed it will be fascinating to see who the real Isildur1 is and if he can continue to take on the best in the world and keep winning at this fantastic rate. With him involved, the online high stakes cash games have simply never been more exciting.

Joesph Cada Winner WSOP 2009- Way to Go Joe!!

Joesph Cada Wins the World Series of Poker WSOP 2009!

The 2009 World Series of Poker was an amazing ride. The final 9 players resumed play in November after a break over the summer. The final 9 players were tagged the November 9.

The final table included: Phil Ivey, Darvin Moon, Eric Buchman, Steven Begleiter, Jeff Shulman, Joseph Cada, Kevin Schaffel, Antoine Saout and James Akenhead.

On Saturday 7 more players were eliminated leaving Joe Cada and Darvin Moon.

Poker play resumed Monday night at 1am Eastern Time. Immediately a monster pot accumulated. Darvin doubles up slow playing QQ. Both players were playing allot of pots. Cada was playing a small ball style raising to 2.5 million every hand. Darvin Moon gained the chip lead 20 minutes into play.

Joe Cada ran into big trouble Vvs Moon’s weak lead style. Joe’s aggressive style was neutralized by Darvin’s calling / ship weak moves. Moon is unbluffable and Joe’s style relies on sliding chips.
Cada takes control after Doon missed some draws and called with q high on the flop.

After the break, Darvin came out swinging taking his stack up to 140 million with Cada’s stack at 50 million. Cada continues to bluff a calling station.

Hand number 70 turned out to be an all in bet after the flop by Cada.

Hand 71 was another huge pot as Darvin double barrels the second bet for 15 million.

Darvin donk bets out on hand 72 or 74. Will Darvin make the donk bet fashionable? River poker would be the best strategy to take on Moon, but Cada continues to play aggressive.
If Cada continuation bets, Moon insta ships all in!

Moon goes all in with 87 with a board of 10 10 9 5 Cada has J9 and calls. River 3 and Cada doubles up. “good call” states Darvin “Your like a tough opponent” says Joe.

Darvin Moon calls all in with QJ suited VS Joe Cada’s 99 for 143 million pot! 8 7 2 flop turn K river 7.

Joe Cada becomes the youngest World Series of Poker Main event champion in history!
